CEO Message Missing an AGC Meeting
May Cost You Money
Year-round training provides tremendous
opportunities for AGC members
By AGC CEO Steve Sandherr
If you missed AGC's Midyear Meeting,
you missed an opportunity to save your company thousands and
possibly millions of dollars. Midyear sessions such as the
Economic Issues Forum, California Engine Emissions Mandate
and the release of the Contractors' Guide to BIM provided
information essential to thrive in today's construction industry.
These meetings are just a sampling of the many opportunities
members have to take advantage of sessions and educational
products on a wide range of topics including legislation,
safety and leadership training.
At the Economic Issues Forum, AGC Chief
Economist Ken Simonson released the latest edition of the
Construction Inflation Alert, a resource that provides contractors
with the tools to plan when bidding on projects and purchasing
construction materials.
This report has proved to save members
money and provide valuable economic insights, and it serves
as a reliable resource for explaining recent price increases
to owners.
Representatives from Caterpillar, ECCO
Equipment Corp., Emissions Technology and Granite Construction
educated members about the far-reaching economic implications
of California's engine mandate.
The California Air Resources Board is
working on a new rule that could render millions of dollars
of construction equipment worthless unless it is fitted with
emissions controls or the engine is re-powered.
"The meeting stressed the importance of educating our
local governments about clean air alternatives that satisfy
both the environmental and the business needs of our regions,"
says Bob Lanham, Williams Brothers Construction Co. Inc.,
Houston, Texas.
We also released the Contractors' Guide
to BIM, which educates contractors about Building Information
Modeling, including its benefits, tools and applications.
The guide is the only resource of its kind, designed for both
BIM-experienced contractors and those who are new to the technology.
Several AGC members created the guide so that others could
save time and money in researching the possibilities.
"This guide will help put members
at the forefront of the industry, preparing them for the future,"
says co-author Les Snyder, Barton Malow, Southfield, Mich.
